Agreement on Financial Support Until Daughter Reaches Adulthood
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is expected to cover the full college tuition fees for his daughter, Suri Cruise. It has been reported that Tom Cruise has not seen his daughter for about 10 years since his divorce from his ex-wife in 2012.
The British media outlet Daily Mail reported on the 21st (local time) that Tom Cruise has begun preparations to support Suri Cruise's college tuition. Suri Cruise will turn 17 next month.
A close associate of his ex-wife, actress Katie Holmes, told the outlet, "Suri Cruise is interested in studying fashion in New York," adding, "Tom Cruise has fulfilled his financial responsibilities toward Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise."
Although Tom Cruise, who has not seen his daughter for the past 10 years, does not play an active role in Suri Cruise's college admission process, he plans to actively support her college life financially.
According to the media, Tom Cruise agreed at the time of the divorce to pay all child-rearing expenses, including medical, insurance, college, and other extracurricular costs, until Suri Cruise reaches adulthood.
Tom Cruise married Katie Holmes in 2006 but divorced in 2012. The specific reasons for the divorce have not been disclosed, but some media speculated that Tom Cruise's religion, Scientology, was the cause of the discord. Suri Cruise is Tom Cruise's only biological daughter born between the two.
At the time of the divorce, Katie Holmes reportedly made special efforts to completely shield Suri Cruise from the influence of Scientology. Tom Cruise currently has three children, but among them, only Suri Cruise does not believe in Scientology.
Suri Cruise currently lives in Manhattan, New York, with her mother, Katie Holmes, who has custody. Last year, she also sang the OST for the American film Alone Together, which Katie Holmes directed, wrote, and starred in.
Meanwhile, Scientology is a religion founded in 1954 by American L. Ron Hubbard, known for its belief in spiritual healing through technology and reincarnation theory. Although it originated in the United States, it now has regional headquarters in several countries, including Australia and France. However, few countries officially recognize Scientology as a religion.
