‘Jukjeon Station Stabbing’ Incident: Purchased Kitchen and Chef Knives a Day Before
Prosecutors Judge as ‘Random Crime’... Offended by the Word "Ajumma," Leading to the Attack
A woman in her 30s who wielded a weapon and injured three passengers on a Suin-Bundang Line train heading to Jukjeon Station in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Hyuk-su) announced on the 22nd that a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. A, was arrested and indicted on charges of aggravated assault for wielding a kitchen knife on the Suin-Bundang Line train at Jukjeon Station, seriously injuring three victims.
Ms. A is accused of purchasing two kitchen knives, one kitchen cleaver, and one cutter knife on the 3rd of this month, the day of the incident, and the day before. While traveling on the subway, when one of the victims asked her, "Ma'am, could you please lower your phone volume?" she became upset and wielded the kitchen cleaver, causing serious injuries.
The prosecution explained that Ms. A committed what is known as a 'random attack' without any particular motive, and considering the severity of the method, the harm caused, the nature of the crime, and the high possibility of reoffending, they took these factors into account.
