On the 22nd, Daejeon City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Baseball Dream Park at the planned baseball stadium site within Hanbat Stadium in Busa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon.

The Baseball Dream Park will be constructed with a total project cost of 161.7 billion KRW, covering a total floor area of 58,594㎡, with two basement levels and four above-ground floors.

The first basement level will house management and support facilities, the second basement level will include player facilities such as locker rooms, indoor practice rooms, coaches' offices, and a players' cafeteria, and the first through fourth floors above ground will be designated for spectator seating and auxiliary facilities.

Notably, the Baseball Dream Park will be the first baseball stadium in Asia to implement a “double-deck bullpen” that separates the visiting and home teams, allowing fans attending the games to easily observe the bullpen situations of both teams at a glance.

Additionally, the scoreboard will be positioned opposite the home team’s spectator seats on the first base side rather than in the center of the outfield, enhancing viewing convenience for home team fans?an aspect that also draws attention.

The stadium will feature an asymmetrical field with different distances from home plate to the outfield poles, a first among domestic stadiums. The Baseball Dream Park will have a distance of 99 meters to the left field pole and 95 meters to the right field pole.

The outfield fence heights will also vary. On the right field fence, Asia’s first 8-meter-high Monster Wall will be installed to create diverse game situations, while other sections will have fences 2.4 meters high to allow for catching potential home run balls.

Moreover, the Baseball Dream Park will include an infinity pool, an artificial surfing facility, sports experience spaces, a performance exhibition hall, and an outdoor park, enabling visitors to enjoy a variety of cultural, artistic, and leisure activities.

Outside the baseball stadium, there will be an experiential playground for children called “Adventure Foret,” a lawn yard for citizens’ rest and leisure, and an outdoor stage serving as a green space for the community.

Previously, the city began the basic planning for Baseball Dream Park in July 2019, officially advancing the baseball stadium construction. In November 2020, administrative procedures were completed, and the Gyeryong Construction consortium was selected as the contractor.

Subsequently, design work commenced in January last year, and by conducting design and foundational construction simultaneously, the construction period was minimized as much as possible.

Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “Baseball Dream Park will be built as a new-concept baseball stadium differentiated from existing ones,” adding, “In addition to its primary function as a baseball stadium, it will be developed as a cultural, artistic, and leisure space with performance halls and exhibition spaces for citizens to use, making it a nationwide landmark.”
