Reception of Candidates for 'Citizen Award and Honorary Citizen'

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, is accepting nominations for the Citizen Award and Honorary Citizen candidates in celebration of the '52nd Wando Citizens' Day.'

According to the county on the 22nd, every year, organizations or individuals who have contributed to the development of the local community, the welfare of citizens, or have enhanced the county's honor are nominated and selected through a review process for the Citizen Award and Honorary Citizen titles.

The Citizen Award selects one person in each of four categories: education and culture & sports, social welfare and environment, industrial economy, and local defense & order and security.

Honorary Citizens are individuals who have contributed domestically and internationally to the development of county administration and the enhancement of the county's status in fields such as culture, arts, education, sports, economy, and science, or who have devoted themselves to social volunteer activities and are recognized for their contribution to citizen unity. There is no limit to the number of people selected.

Nominations can be made by the chairman of the Wando County Council, heads of institutions and organizations, and heads of towns and townships until the 14th of next month. Individuals must submit a petition signed by more than 30 household heads.

The county will form a screening committee and an investigation committee to review the nominees, finalize the recipients by May 19, and award the prizes and certificates at the '52nd Wando Citizens' Day' commemorative event on May 31.

Meanwhile, starting this year, the county plans to establish a management system for past honorary citizens to revitalize the honorary citizen program.

One of the measures includes promoting marine healing and the hometown love donation system through an honorary citizen fam tour, producing honorary citizen certificates, and providing admission fee discounts at Wando County facilities to ensure honorary citizens can enjoy practical benefits.

A county official stated, "We expect to build a human network based on a cooperative system as well as to honor honorary citizens who have contributed to development."
