Ssangyong Motor announced on the 22nd that it held a shareholders' meeting and confirmed the agenda to change its company name to KG Mobility.
Starting as Hadonghwan Automobile Workshop in 1954, Ssangyong Motor went through Dong-A Motor in 1977 before adopting the Ssangyong name in 1988. It has now changed to a new name after 35 years.
The company explained, "Mobility comprehensively expresses not only traditional automobile manufacturing and sales but also future-oriented technology development and application such as electrification, autonomous driving, connectivity, and mobility services based on these technologies."
Going forward, the company plans to focus on various technology fields related to mobility, including electric vehicle-dedicated platforms, software-defined vehicles (SDV), autonomous vehicles, and artificial intelligence. At the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show held at the end of this month, it will showcase various design concept models, including the electric vehicle Torres EVX.
The new brand slogan is "Go Different, KG Mobility." Along with the name change, the company is also reviewing various new businesses such as certified used car sales and special vehicle businesses. The certified used car business plans to establish sales and maintenance organizations within the first half of this year and start operations in the second half. The company will strengthen its automotive customization product business, including electric side steps, and establish a separate corporation for manufacturing special vehicles.
The company will hold a design contest next month and conduct promotions together with POSCO, which supplies vehicle steel plates.
