The regional hub smart city development project is a project in which local governments and private companies jointly create hub-type smart cities equipped with smart infrastructure such as autonomous driving, metaverse, and data hubs. Haenam County participated in the contest as "Solarisdo Enterprise City" together with the Southwest Coast Enterprise City Development, Jeollanam-do, and others, and was finally selected in December 2021.

The joint venture established by Boseong Industrial and SK Securities will be responsible for the construction and operation of the Solarisdo smart city for the next eight years. It will establish a foundation for resident convenience services using eco-friendly energy and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, including autonomous driving, solar power generation, energy storage system (ESS)-linked electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

This business model is comparable to the case where Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Sejong City, and private companies jointly established a special purpose company (SPC) to build the Sejong Smart City National Pilot City, which was established earlier.

Solarisdo will be developed on approximately 20.9 million square meters (about 6.32 million pyeong, about seven times the size of Yeouido) in the Haenam County area of Jeonnam. It aims to be a new environmental future city equipped with smart infrastructure based on clean renewable energy and blessed natural environments such as lakes, seas, and gardens, with energy, garden, and smart as its core concepts.

Last September, it attracted a global RE100 data center investment worth a total of 2 billion dollars (five units of 40MW class) from TGK Corporation. Developments are also underway for a "renewable energy hub terminal," including power generation and industrial complexes where renewable energy production, supply, and consumption are possible in one place, and a 1GW-scale data center park.

A representative of Boseong Industrial said, "The establishment of the joint venture will invigorate not only the regional hub smart city project but also the entire Solarisdo development project," adding, "We will do our best to make Solarisdo a standard for new environmental future cities."
