Pohang City will host the snow crab festival ‘2023 Guryongpo Eoseoosige’ for three days from the 24th to the 26th in Guryongpo, Pohang, the center of snow crab production.

Held at the Guryongpo Gwamegi Culture Street Ara Square, this festival aims to promote the brand reputation of Guryongpo snow crabs nationwide and offers discount events where tourists can purchase high-quality snow crabs and red snow crabs at affordable prices, along with various free tasting events.

As this is the first festival in a long time, a variety of attractions and diverse events for tourists to experience firsthand have been prepared.

At the opening ceremony starting at 5 p.m. on the 25th, visitors can enjoy the ‘Snow Crab Festival Street Parade’ and the themed performance ‘Fiery Dragon: The Secret of Guryong,’ based on Guryongpo folklore. There will also be a ‘Line Rocket Performance’ depicting nine dragons ascending to the sky.

Additionally, popular trot singers including Jung Mi-ae from Mistrot Season 1, Park Seong-yeon, and Min Young-hwa will perform at the opening celebration, marking the highlight of the ceremony.

During the event, various participatory side events for tourists will be abundantly prepared, such as the Guryongpo Marine Culture Exploration Program ‘A Round Trip of Guryongpo on the Yeonoseo Ship!,’ three types of roulette games called ‘No Loss in Guryongpo,’ the ‘Guess the Weight of the Snow Crab’ Golden Bell quiz, and the Guryongpo Stamp Tour.

Near the festival venue, Guryongpo Ara Square, are popular tourist attractions such as the Japanese House Street, the filming location of the hit drama ‘When the Camellia Blooms,’ the Gwamegi Culture Center, and Homigot Millennium Memorial Park, making it an ideal weekend family travel course combining the festival and nearby sightseeing spots.

Jung Cheol-young, Director of the Fisheries Policy Division of the city, said, “The snow crab festival, held for the first time in four years due to COVID-19, has returned with various attractions and abundant entertainment,” adding, “We hope it will be a meaningful time to enjoy the true taste of Guryongpo snow crabs as well as the history and culture of Guryongpo simultaneously.”
