Busan City will hold the ‘2030 Busan World Expo Bid Support Fireworks Show’ at Gwangalli Beach on April 6th from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, expressing the passionate desire and determination to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan.
This event is planned as part of the Expo bid boom-up in line with the on-site inspection schedule of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) inspection team. It is designed to showcase the excellence of the city of Busan and its capability to host large-scale events. The event aims to appeal to Busan’s charm while garnering nationwide interest and support to differentiate itself from competing countries. As many citizens are expected to attend, it is also anticipated to play a significant role in spreading promotional enthusiasm.
Unlike the existing ‘Busan Fireworks Festival,’ which is held at three locations?Gwangalli, Haeundae, and Nam-gu?the ‘2030 Busan World Expo Bid Support Fireworks Show’ will be held exclusively at Gwangalli Beach. Its distinctive features include ▲a narrated video message conveying the bid support through music and drawing visuals ▲a gigantic fireworks finale and 2030 Expo Busan large-scale letter fireworks performance unique to Busan ▲a multimedia fireworks display combining the Gwangandaegyo Bridge lighting, fireworks, and multimedia systems.
The program will proceed in the order of the pre-events ▲Fireworks Talk Show ▲Celebration Performance ▲Bid Support Countdown, followed by the main event ▲2030 Busan World Expo Bid Support Fireworks Show.
The ‘Fireworks Talk Show,’ marking the start of the festival, will be conducted in a radio format using in-venue speakers. It will promote the Expo and introduce citizens’ stories related to the Expo collected through a public contest, aiming to build a shared understanding and support for the bid. Additionally, three preview fireworks displays will be performed during the Fireworks Talk Show to enhance the pre-event atmosphere.
The band ‘Kadi,’ the promotional ambassador for the Busan World Expo, will perform a celebratory concert to heighten the excitement before the fireworks show. During the ‘Bid Support Countdown,’ a countdown will be held with citizens, expressing Busan’s unity and desire to host the Expo. The countdown will feature past Expo host countries along with the final 2030 host, representing South Korea and Busan, to intensify the bid enthusiasm.
The main event, the ‘Fireworks Show,’ will feature a variety of fireworks for about 30 minutes under the theme ‘K-Wave,’ symbolizing the passionate desire and determination of the Republic of Korea as a great wave, and Busan moving the world like waves in the sea.
Especially against the backdrop of the Gwangandaegyo Bridge, the show will start with the signature Niagara fireworks, followed by large-scale fireworks unique to Busan and narration to foster a citywide consensus for the bid and showcase Busan’s unique charm to the inspection team.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “Busan is already a prepared city that has hosted world-class large international events. Since the support of citizens is the greatest strength in hosting the World Expo, I hope everyone will visit the event site and add to the bid enthusiasm.” He added, “South Korea, including Busan City, the government, and businesses, is united as ‘One Team Korea,’ mobilizing all capabilities with sincerity and strong desire to win the bid against any competing country. We will do our best to succeed in the vote to decide the 2030 World Expo host at the end of November this year.”
To ensure smooth festival operations, the city will implement traffic control starting April 2nd. Partial lane closures on the Gwangandaegyo Bridge will be enforced from April 2nd to April 7th for the installation and removal of structures, lighting, and fireworks. On the event day, April 6th, the upper deck (toward Nam-gu) will be closed from 3:30 PM, and the lower deck (toward Haeundae) from 6:30 PM. Sections around the Gwangalli event site will also be controlled accordingly.
However, since the event is held on a weekday, the city plans to actively recommend a two-day vehicle restriction system and encourage the use of public transportation, along with strengthened prior promotion.
