Danggogae Park, Established in 2002, Renovated After 21 Years

Creation of Lawn Yard, Circular Walking Path, Rest Garden, and Maintenance of Basketball Court, Badminton Court, and Wall Fountain

Opening Ceremony to be Held at 3 PM on March 27 at the Outdoor Stage within the Park

Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 27th that Danggogae Park near Suraksan Mountain will reopen as a distinctive park catering to all generations.

Danggogae Park is located near Danggogae Station and Shinsanggyo Elementary School, featuring various sports facilities such as a children's playground, basketball court, and badminton court, making it a popular spot for residents. In particular, the artificial rock climbing wall within the park is one of the frequently used facilities by enthusiasts.

However, the park, established in 2002, had outdated facilities, and part of it was incorporated into the Sanggye Redevelopment Promotion Zone, making it inevitable to rearrange convenience facilities and park pathways.

Accordingly, since June last year, the district has been carrying out the Danggogae Park renovation project as part of the 'Living Park Regeneration Project,' investing a total of 3.2 billion KRW with 1.6 billion KRW funded by Seoul City. The goal is to create a distinctive and pleasant park to return to the residents.

The district focused on designing spaces and facilities within the park so that people of all ages, from children to seniors, can comfortably rest and engage in various physical activities while enjoying views of Suraksan Mountain.

Upon entering the park, visitors are greeted by a wide lawn yard. An outdoor stage and deck rest area were installed to enjoy outdoor events on the open lawn. Here, visitors can enjoy a leisurely picnic while overlooking Suraksan Mountain and the entire park.

Additionally, the urethane surface of two basketball courts was replaced, and the artificial turf of three badminton courts (552㎡) was renewed. For seniors who enjoy light exercise while walking around the park, a 380-meter circular walking path encompassing the entire park was created, and over 20 exercise facilities were installed in the exercise yard. Anyone visiting Danggogae Park can enjoy climbing, basketball, badminton, and street workouts throughout the park.

The park's healing function was also enhanced. A 'Rest Garden' was created within the park, planting four types of large trees such as pine and birch, seven types of shrubs including mountain azalea, and 17 species like Gaura and Korean chrysanthemum, providing diverse visual attractions. The wall fountain was also refurbished to offer a cool resting space this coming summer.

Major convenience facilities were improved as well. The old restrooms and management office were newly built, and the parking lot was expanded from 26 to 44 spaces to allow more residents to enjoy the park comfortably. The park opening ceremony will be held at 3 PM on the 27th at the outdoor stage within the park.

The district is promoting the 'Living Park Regeneration Project' targeting 28 living parks and 90 children's parks in the area. Park regeneration is carried out in a way that highlights individuality according to the surrounding area's conditions, including circular walking paths, exercise spaces, lawn yards, resting areas, and reinforcement of children's play facilities. The project to create pleasant and safe healing parks for all generations began in 2019, with over 60 parks already completed.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "After a long wait, Danggogae Park has returned as a resting place that everyone, young and old, can enjoy," and added, "We will accelerate the park regeneration project so that residents can fully heal at nearby living parks without having to travel far."

Seodaemun-gu Revives Premium Pine Trees That Were Almost Discarded

Received 13 Trees from Samsung Life Insurance through Proactive Administration and Transplanted Them to Two Parks

Seodaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 22nd that 13 premium pine trees, which could have been discarded due to the redevelopment of Samsung Life Insurance's Seosomun Building (88 Seosomun-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul), were recently transplanted to two parks in the district.

These pine trees, over 40 years old, are valued at hundreds of millions to over 20 million KRW each depending on their shape, with a total estimated value of about 200 million KRW, according to district officials.

The district engaged in active consultations with Seoul City and Samsung Life Insurance, and after several site visits by relevant department officials, successfully received the trees as a donation from Samsung Life Insurance.

The district transplanted 10 trees to Bokjusan Neighborhood Park (1016-2 Bukahyeon-dong) and 3 trees to Changcheon Neighborhood Park (4-55 Changcheon-dong).

These trees harmonize with existing plants such as Korean spindle and burning bush in the parks, providing beautiful scenery for citizens.

This proactive administrative case by Seodaemun-gu is evaluated as having enhanced the quality of landscaping spaces while saving budget.

District Mayor Lee Seong-heon said, "While the economic value of the trees is significant, it is even more rewarding to preserve trees that could have been lost due to development projects without damage."

Jongno-gu Launches Anti-Landslide Project with 2.8 Billion KRW Investment

Focus on Installing Disaster Prevention Facilities and Improving Ecological Environment, Scheduled for Completion by June Before the Start of the Rainy Season

Implemented in an Eco-Friendly Way Harmonizing with Nature... Prioritizing Stone over Concrete, Installing Plant Mats and Planting Trees

Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Moon-heon) is launching the '2023 Anti-Landslide Project' to prevent landslides caused by heavy summer rains and protect residents' lives and property.

The target sites include 16 locations within the district, from Waryong Park near Myeongnyun 3-ga San 2-13 to the open area of Bukaksan in Samcheong-dong and the badminton court at Inwangsan Mountain.

With approximately 2.8 billion KRW funded by Seoul City and the Korea Forest Service, the project aims to complete installation of disaster prevention facilities and ecological environment improvements by June, before the rainy season begins.

Specifically, the project will reinforce dangerous cut slopes and mountain slopes by installing stone retaining walls, making slopes prone to landslides gentler. Rockfall prevention measures and nets will be installed to protect people and vehicles and reduce rockfall threats to residential areas.

Additionally, a stream conservation project will be implemented to form natural stone cross-sections, reducing stream velocity and preventing valley erosion. Areas with concerns about ground subsidence, soil outflow, and cracks will be carefully maintained, and temporary sediment control dams will be constructed to suppress soil outflow caused by heavy rains.

This project will be carried out in an eco-friendly manner harmonizing with nature. Stone will be prioritized over concrete, and plant mats that maintain greenery year-round will be laid, along with tree planting.

Furthermore, the district will form a 'Landslide Field Prevention Team' from May to October annually to prepare for possible accidents and strengthen the continuous response system.

District Mayor Jeong Moon-heon emphasized, "Since disaster prevention is more important than aftercare, we will devote all efforts to complete this anti-landslide project before the rainy season," adding, "After construction, we will conduct regular patrols and safety inspections to ensure residents' safety."
