Gyeongbuk Tongsang Appoints Kim Hyun-gyu as New CEO ... First Internal Promotion

Gyeongbuk Tongsang, a company invested by Gyeongbuk Province, held a shareholders' meeting on the 20th and appointed Kim Hyun-gyu (64), Executive Director, as CEO through the first-ever internal promotion among 29 investment and contribution institutions in the Gyeongbuk region.

Newly appointed CEO Kim Hyun-gyu joined in 1995 as part of the first public recruitment class and has worked at Gyeongbuk Tongsang for 29 years, serving as Head of Trade Team 1, Head of General Affairs Team, Director of Management Support Headquarters, General Director, and Executive Director.

Since 2013, he has been the lead professor for the practical export course of agricultural products at the Gyeongbuk Farmers' Academy, and since 2018, he has also served as a member of the Gyeongbuk Province Agricultural Products Distribution Innovation Committee.

Last year, Gyeongbuk Tongsang achieved sales of 67.2 billion KRW, winning the 50 million USD Export Tower Award for the first time since its founding, and recorded remarkable management achievements such as seven consecutive years of shareholder dividends.

This year, through active export consultations with 105 buyers from 23 countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, the company aims to achieve sales of 75 billion KRW, a 12% increase compared to the previous year.

Kim Hyun-gyu, the new CEO of Gyeongbuk Tongsang, said, “Rather than feeling joy as the first head of an institution promoted internally among 29 investment and contribution institutions in Gyeongsangbuk-do, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility,” adding, “We will strive to become a Gyeongbuk Tongsang that can give hope to farmers and trust to customers through the expansion of agricultural product exports.”

Until now, the CEO of Gyeongbuk Tongsang has been appointed through external recruitment, selecting CEOs from KOTRA and the financial sector. This unprecedented personnel decision is evaluated as considering Kim’s rich work experience accumulated over 29 years at Gyeongbuk Tongsang in agricultural product exports and management, as well as his past management achievements.
