Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (Director Park Beom-su, hereinafter Hanul Headquarters) announced, "Hanul Unit 3 (Pressurized Water Reactor, 1 million kW class), which entered planned preventive maintenance on December 28, resumed power generation on the 18th and reached 100% output at 12:45 PM on the 21st."
Hanul Unit 3 achieved nine consecutive cycles of trouble-free safe operation for the first time among domestic nuclear power plants.
A trouble-free operation cycle is a representative indicator that proves the stability and technical capability of nuclear power plant operation, including maintenance, operation, and management skills. It means that the power plant operates stably without shutdown during one cycle, from the time of system connection after completing planned preventive maintenance to the time of system separation for the next planned preventive maintenance.
During this planned preventive maintenance period, various equipment inspections and maintenance were performed, including fuel replacement and complete disassembly inspection of the reactor coolant pump (01B), enhancing the reliability of the power generation facilities. Safety was confirmed through statutory inspections according to the Nuclear Safety Act.
In addition, tensile tests and performance certifications were conducted on the attached anchors of the primary equipment cooling seawater rotary filter to verify their soundness.
The primary equipment cooling seawater rotary filter is installed at the front end of the pump supplying seawater to the primary equipment cooling water heat exchanger and serves to remove marine foreign substances.
Hanul Headquarters will continue to do its best to ensure the safe operation of nuclear power plants and will transparently disclose related information immediately if any unusual matters occur at the power plant.
