‘Big Dream Busan's Future’ Proclamation Ceremony Held ... 2023, The First Year of Busan's Great Leap

Busan City announces a new urban brand and future vision, declaring 2023 as the inaugural year of Busan's great leap forward.


The city announced that on the 21st at 3 PM, it will hold the ‘Big Dream, Busan’s Future’ proclamation ceremony at the 3rd floor of BEXCO Convention Hall.

This event is designed to widely promote Busan’s new urban brand and future vision, build a broad civic consensus on Busan as a global hub city, and inspire expectations and pride for Busan’s future.


About 1,000 people are expected to attend, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min, Superintendent of Education Ha Yoon-soo, Acting Chairman Jeon Bong-min of the People Power Party Busan City Party, Chairman Seo Eun-sook of the Democratic Party Busan City Party, as well as figures from local politics, academia, media, economy, culture and arts, civic groups, district mayors and county heads, and citizens.


The event consists of Part 1, the ‘Busan Urban Brand Proclamation Ceremony,’ and Part 2, the ‘Busan Future Vision Declaration Ceremony.’ Part 1 will include ▲opening remarks ▲congratulatory speeches ▲a video introducing the birth process of the new urban brand ▲awards for contributors ▲and the proclamation of the new urban brand.


Part 2 will feature ▲Busan vision media dance performance ▲vision announcement by the mayor ▲screening of Busan’s future video ▲Busan vision ceremony ▲commemorative photo session and closing.


During Part 1, the urban brand proclamation ceremony will showcase a video depicting how the urban brand was born from the opinions of 100,000 citizens, followed by an awards ceremony for the citizen participation group who contributed to the brand development.


Next, the city will screen the urban symbol (CI) video, which is the first in Korea to express three-dimensional (3D) stereoscopic effects through colors and angles, and will unveil for the first time the brand slogan (BI) sculpture ‘Busan is good (Busanira jota),’ embodying Busan’s pride, generating high expectations.


In Part 2, Mayor Park Hyung-jun will personally present the ‘Busan Vision.’ He is expected to propose five core strategies for a Busan where people would want to live again: ▲logistics hub city ▲financial innovation city ▲digital new industry city ▲cultural attraction city ▲global tourism city.


To achieve Busan’s future-oriented goals as Asia’s top city for citizen happiness and a world-leading global hub city, the five core strategies are as follows:


◆ Logistics Hub City


To leap forward as a global logistics hub comparable to Singapore and Hong Kong by building an advanced logistics tri-port, plans include ▲early construction and opening of Gadeok New Airport before the 2030 World Expo ▲establishment of a tri-port logistics hub including advanced hinterlands ▲development of marine platform cities such as Gadeokdo Air City, marine city, and marine multi-port.


◆ Financial Innovation City


To develop into a world-class financial city supporting marine and logistics industries, plans include ▲concentration of financial institutions such as Korea Development Bank and completion of the BIFC development as a financial center ▲creation of a digital valley leading digital finance with blockchain-specialized clusters and fintech companies ▲advancement of industry-academia cooperation cities and fostering of Asian startup cities to establish an industry-academia-startup-centered city.


◆ Digital New Industry City


To create a future-oriented new industrial ecosystem responding to the digital transformation through ICT convergence, plans include ▲promotion of digital new industries converging ICT such as quantum technology and artificial intelligence (AI) ▲development of future growth engines including aircraft maintenance industry (MRO), urban air mobility (UAM) industry, and power semiconductor value chain ▲fostering climate tech industries such as hydrogen and carbon capture, utilization, and storage technology (CCUS).


◆ Cultural Attraction City


To develop as a leading city for culture, video content, and lifestyle sports attracting global attention, plans include ▲construction of high-end cultural and artistic infrastructure such as opera houses and world-class art museums ▲creation of K-culture leading film and video content city through film, video, and game innovation clusters and digital content development ▲promotion of lifestyle culture, regional arts, and expansion of infrastructure and base for everyday sports to become a city where culture and sports are part of daily life.


◆ Global Tourism City


To build a world-class tourism hub city leveraging Busan’s urban characteristics and strengths, plans include ▲leading global tourism content by focusing on global intellectual property (IP) linkage and regional history and cultural resource-based tourism content development ▲introduction of new maritime tourism transportation, establishment of marina hubs and international cruise hub city as marine leisure hubs ▲creation of a specialized regional tourism belt through development of the southern coast tourism belt and fostering medical, wellness, and workation tourism.


As a side event, a 2030 Busan World Expo policy booth will operate to spread enthusiasm for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo ahead of the onsite inspection by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).


Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “To mark 2023 as the inaugural year of Busan’s great leap forward, we have prepared today’s event to share Busan’s new urban brand and future vision with citizens.” He added, “We will vigorously open the future that Busan will embrace together with citizens, as a global hub city and a city where citizens are happy.”


He emphasized, “The proclamation of the new urban brand is a pledge for ‘Busan’s great leap forward’ and a promise to citizens. We will do our best to become a city worthy of the meaning of ‘Busan is good,’ and Busan’s new brand will become Busan’s competitiveness.”
