A public official from the Ulsan City Sewage Management Division will receive a Presidential Citation.
Ulsan City announced that on the 21st, at the ‘2023 International Water Industry Expo (WATER KOREA)’ hosted by the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Ha Hye-jeong, a public official from the Ulsan City Hall Sewage Management Division, was selected as a meritorious person in water management and will receive a Presidential Citation.
This citation was awarded after the Korea Water and Wastewater Works Association received recommendations for meritorious persons who contributed to water management and the water industry from member institutions and companies, and selected a total of four people through evaluation.
The recipients of this citation include Ha Hye-jeong, a public official from the Ulsan City Sewage Management Division, and Professor Kim Jin-geun from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Jeju National University for the Presidential Citation; and for the Prime Minister’s Citation, Choi Yong-geon, an officer at the Water and Sewage Business Office in Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province, and Yoon Jun-eok, Executive Director at Shinjin Precision.
Ha Hye-jeong entered public service in 1997 and has worked in water management departments for 11 years during her 25 years of public service, earning recognition for strengthening the management foundation of sewage projects through management improvement and the revision of unreasonable regulations.
Since 2020, while working in the Sewage Management Division, she improved the net loss by about 20 billion KRW over three years through efforts to operate the special sewage account rationally. She also shortened the notification period for appeal decisions and revised the criteria for imposing the polluter pays charges, improving unreasonable regulations that could cause economic losses to citizens.
These efforts contributed to Ulsan City achieving first place nationwide in the 2022 local public enterprise management evaluation in the sewage sector conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. This was the best result since its promotion to a metropolitan city.
Ha said, “I want to share this joy with many people, including my colleagues who worked hard together,” and added, “I plan to continue striving to maintain the clean water quality of the Taehwa River through the proper treatment of domestic wastewater.”
