Gyeonggi-do to Clean 'Resuspended Dust' on Roads by the End of This Month

Gyeonggi-do to Clean 'Resuspended Dust' on Roads by the End of This Month A water truck is spraying water to remove re-suspended dust on the road.

Gyeonggi Province will operate street cleaning vehicles together with 31 cities and counties in the province until the end of this month to remove 're-suspended dust' on the roads.

Re-suspended dust refers to dust that has accumulated on the road due to various causes and is then scattered back into the air by the friction between vehicle tires and the road surface.

Since 2011, Gyeonggi Province has been promoting the 'Road Re-suspended Dust Reduction Project' to reduce road dust. So far, the province has supplied 296 road cleaning vehicles to 31 cities and counties, including 19 dust suction vehicles, 64 high-pressure water spraying vehicles, 175 road surface cleaning vehicles, and 38 electric road surface cleaning vehicles.

During this period, the province has designated 128 road sections (total length 484 km) with heavy vehicle traffic in major urban areas of each city and county as intensive management zones, operating cleaning vehicles more than three times a day.

Additionally, the province has allocated a budget of 7.7 billion KRW to purchase 27 eco-friendly road cleaning vehicles, including 23 CNG cleaning vehicles and 4 electric vehicles, this year.

Once the purchase of cleaning vehicles is completed, the total number of cleaning vehicles operating in the province will increase to 170.

Furthermore, the province will additionally operate 117 high-pressure water spraying vehicles to reduce dust blown along roadsides during high-concentration fine dust occurrences such as fine dust advisories, warnings, and emergency reduction measures.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate, Environment, and Energy Bureau of the province, stated, "We have implemented this intensive operation period to reduce dust scattered on the roads and protect the health of residents. Since the reduction of roadside suspended dust has a significant perceptible effect, we will continue to supply eco-friendly cleaning vehicles and strengthen road cleaning."
