The Japanese animated film 'Suzume no Tojimari' surpassed 2 million viewers on its 13th day since release.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office system on the 20th, 'Suzume no Tojimari' recorded a cumulative audience of 2,000,132 around 6:30 PM. The film, which was released on the 8th, held the top spot at the box office for 12 consecutive days. It attracted 1 million viewers by the 6th day and surpassed the 2 million mark on the 13th day.
The film is the second to attract 2 million viewers since 'The First Slam Dunk,' which was released on January 4. It reached 2 million viewers 16 days earlier than 'The First Slam Dunk,' which took 29 days to reach the same milestone.
Through the distributor, director Makoto Shinkai expressed, "I wanted to comfort the audience who have been exhausted by the prolonged pandemic through this film, and I am glad that our sincerity seems to have been conveyed."
'Suzume no Tojimari' is an animated film about a girl who accidentally opens a door that brings disasters and desperately closes doors to prevent disasters occurring across Japan. Director Makoto Shinkai, known as the 'Magician of Light,' delicately depicted Japanese landscapes such as Kyushu, Kobe, Shikoku, and Tokyo.
