Official Invitation from Japanese Government
Visiting Japan from 22nd to 25th
"Will Lead Consensus on Unification Policy"

Unification Minister Kwon Young-se has accepted an official invitation from the Japanese government and will visit Japan. During this visit, Minister Kwon plans to elevate cooperation between South Korea and Japan on unification and North Korea policies through the "High-Level International Unification Dialogue."

The Ministry of Unification announced on the 20th that Minister Kwon will visit Japan from the 22nd to the 25th under an invitation program extended by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the ministerial level. According to the Ministry, during his visit, Minister Kwon will meet with Japanese government officials and key parliamentary figures, and also hold a meeting with Korean residents in Japan.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Unification aims to strengthen the consensus within Japanese political and public circles regarding the South Korean government's unification and North Korea policies based on the outcomes of the recent South Korea-Japan summit. In particular, the two countries are expected to share perceptions about North Korea and discuss cooperation measures on issues such as abductees and human rights.

Previously, in October last year, Minister Kwon visited Germany to engage in activities aimed at creating a favorable environment for Korean Peninsula unification and the resumption of inter-Korean relations. At that time, he met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to seek support for the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's denuclearization roadmap, the "Bold Initiative," and also met with local media and students to build consensus on unification.

A Ministry of Unification official stated, "The Ministry plans to pursue multifaceted consultations with the international community, including high-level international unification dialogues with key countries, regarding the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's 'Bold Initiative' and other unification and North Korea policies. Through these efforts, we will strive to contribute to establishing an international unification foundation, a national agenda of our government, in cooperation with the international community."
