On Friday, the 17th, Pyeonghae-eup in Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, conducted a wildfire prevention campaign attended by over 150 members of related organizations in the area.
This campaign was held to raise awareness about wildfire prevention on the first anniversary of the large wildfire that occurred on March 4 last year. The damage and recovery status from the previous wildfire were reviewed, and participants including the Pyeonghae-eup Village Chief Council, Development Council, Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, Youth Association, Saemaul Council, Saemaul Women's Association, wildfire monitors, Hope Jobs program, as well as students and teachers from Pyeonghae Middle School and Information High School, wore wildfire prevention ribbons and sashes and marched holding placards and banners.
The march started at the square in front of the Pyeonghae-eup Office and proceeded through the market, terminal, and other areas throughout the Pyeonghae-eup downtown district.
Campaign activities included chanting wildfire prevention slogans, broadcasting wildfire prevention messages, and distributing promotional materials. The materials distributed to residents covered safety rules for wood-fired boilers, fire prevention methods for livestock barns, and examples of penalties for causing wildfires intentionally or accidentally.
As the national crisis alert for wildfire disasters was raised to ‘Warning,’ the risk of wildfire occurrence has reached its peak. During the special wildfire countermeasure period from March 6 to April 30, extra caution is required more than ever.
Choi Seon-gwang, the head of Pyeonghae-eup, stated, “Through this campaign, we have fostered a wildfire prevention atmosphere among Pyeonghae-eup residents and heightened awareness of the dangers of wildfires. We will work together with the residents to create a wildfire-free Pyeonghae-eup.”
