Koabio, Global Food Safety Management System Certification

Asia's Largest Kombucha Factory Owned
Preparing to Leap as a Global Food Company

HLB Global announced on the 20th that its affiliate CoaBio, which operates in the Kombucha business, has obtained the global Food Safety Management System (FSSC22000) certification.

The Food Safety Management System certification is one of the international food standards approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is the most actively adopted food safety standard among global food companies. It is based on the European food safety standard 'ISO 22000' and helps food manufacturers produce products in a safe and hygienic environment.

CoaBio, located in Iksan, Jeonbuk, has the largest Kombucha factory in Asia. The minimum daily production capacity of CoaBio's Kombucha factory is 80,000 bottles of Kombucha. CoaBio produces Kombucha products for well-known brands including its own brand 'I'm Alive Kombucha,' Ediya, Peacock, Hollys Coffee, and Amway.

Kim Jong-won, CEO of CoaBio, said, "We experienced trial and error and difficulties since last year to obtain the certification," but added, "It was rewarding in that we gained an opportunity to leap forward as a global company."

Kombucha is an organic health drink fermented with beneficial bacteria called SCOBY from extracts such as black tea and green tea. It has been found to help with detoxification, reduction of liver toxins, antioxidant effects, immune enhancement, and digestive health, leading to increased sales demand recently.
