Oh Gwang-rok, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, announced on the 20th that he raised questions regarding the management plan for Gwangjucheon, including the unification of river management and the establishment of a dedicated organization, during the 3rd plenary session of the 310th extraordinary meeting.
Councilor Oh pointed out that all tasks related to Gwangjucheon, such as the river's foul odor, sports facilities, streetlights, walking trails, and bicycle paths, are separately divided and not properly managed. He inquired about integrated management and the establishment of a dedicated organization and proposed the creation of a T/F team for public discussion.
He also urged Seo-gu Office to take proactive administrative action to reduce traffic inducement charges, stating that small business owners within the construction section of Subway Line 2 are suffering greatly due to traffic congestion and noise caused by the construction amid the stagnant economic situation.
Furthermore, he suggested the introduction of a management system using management cards for reflecting and executing policies related to policy proposals and inquiries, which are the most important roles of the council.
Kim Yi-gang, head of Seo-gu Office, expressed full agreement on the necessity of unifying Gwangjucheon management and establishing a dedicated organization, stating, “We will make efforts through consultation with Gwangju City.”
Regarding the reduction of traffic inducement charges, he replied, “We will actively propose this to the city,” and added, “We will submit reports on the council’s sound supervision and constructive alternative proposals.”
