Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, Holds Meeting on 'Youth Mental Health Support' in Changwon

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held an on-site meeting for the mental health of high-risk youth at the Changwon Youth Counseling and Welfare Center starting at 2 p.m. on the 20th.


At the on-site meeting, Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, peer counseling youth, school principals, youth companions, heads of departments from Gyeongsangnam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education, and the Director of Welfare, Women, and Health Bureau of Changwon City attended to share opinions and communicate on-site for psychological and emotional support for high-risk youth.

A peer counseling youth said, “I shared my experience of counseling a classmate who was struggling emotionally at school, and I felt proud to see that we became closer and that their self-esteem improved.”


The youth companion also said, “After meeting the youth by visiting them, I felt rewarded seeing their increased intimacy and healthy growth.”


Minister Kim stated, “The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to review and implement various measures to strengthen support for high-risk youth by incorporating voices from the field to ensure effectiveness. I hope local governments and the Ministry of Education will also work to strengthen the youth safety net connections and establish a system that provides tailored support.”


Seo Ho-gwan, Director of the Welfare, Women, and Health Bureau, said, “Since COVID-19, cases of youth experiencing psychological and emotional crises have increased. We will strive to wholeheartedly promote projects for youth mental health in cooperation with schools, the Office of Education, and related organizations so that the youth, who are the future leaders, can grow up healthily.”
