'Goguma Bunker Escape' Abbreviation
Combining Advantages of Wedge and Utility
"Suitable for Female and Senior Golfers"
The 1879 'Gobeongtal (GBT)' is a bunker and rough-specific golf club created by the domestic brand 1879 Golf. The name means 'Sweet Potato Bunker Escape.' Combining the advantages of wedges and utilities, it can be a 'secret weapon' for amateur golfers who struggle with bunker escapes.
Gobeongtal is designed with a lower overall weight to make it easier for golfers to control the club, concentrating the weight on the head (blade). The blade face, designed with a low center of gravity, touches the ground first to help lift the ball. The company explains that it is 'perfectly suited' for women and senior golfers with less strength.
It also features a blade (leading edge) more than twice as wide as a typical wedge. Thanks to this, simply brushing the sand behind the ball allows for an easy bunker escape. This characteristic can also be applied to regular shots, helping to create a high trajectory and enabling stable play by lifting the ball high.
The GBT series was developed with direct participation from Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) and Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) tour pros affiliated with 1879. Recognized for its special design and technology, it has obtained patents for the golf club head and the golf club including it. It is officially certified by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A), allowing tour players to use it.
The overall design, accented with pink, signals the start of the spring golf season. The loft options include three choices: 50 degrees, 55 degrees, and 60 degrees. It can be combined in over 1.74 million ways with variations in shaft frequency (CPM) at Bundang, shaft length, swing weight, and more. Through nationwide fitting centers partnered with 1879, clubs can be custom-made to best suit individual golf styles.
