After Criticizing 'K-Drama Sneak Peek'... China Retaliates with "Mind Your Own Business"

Chinese Netizens Criticize South Korea's 'NunuTV'

Professor Seokyungdeok from Sungshin Women's University recently urged the eradication of the use of the illegal streaming site 'NunuTV,' emphasizing the need for civic awareness as illegal viewing became a problem.

On the 20th, Professor Seo stated on Instagram, "I strongly pointed out that illegal viewing of 'The Glory' by Chinese netizens is widespread, which caused controversy," adding, "Afterwards, some Chinese netizens began sending mocking messages to my SNS account's DM, such as 'You should crack down on your own people,' and 'Koreans also watch for free, right?'"

He said, "At the center of this was 'NunuTV,'" and added, "It is unacceptable that we watch K-content illegally through such sites." He continued, "If we do not protect our culture ourselves, who else will?"

He emphasized, "We must never forget that a true 'cultural powerhouse' is not only about producing good content but also about having the 'civic awareness' to use that content properly."

Meanwhile, since 2021, 'NunuTV' has been illegally providing domestic online video service (OTT) content, dramas, and movies through servers located overseas, including in the Dominican Republic. Despite several access blocks, it continues to operate by circumventing addresses.

Earlier this month, broadcasters such as TVING, Wavve, MBC, JTBC, and content production studio SLL launched the 'Video Copyright Protection Council' and filed a lawsuit against NunuTV. Netflix is also participating in the council's activities through ACE, the world's largest anti-piracy organization.

In response, on the 9th, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Crime Investigation Unit began an investigation into NunuTV.
