"Woof Woof!" Startled by Dog Barking... Caught After Dropping Drugs While Running Away

Attempted 'Deonjigi' Transaction in Residential Area of Gwangju

Two men in their 30s were arrested after dropping drugs on the street in surprise when they sensed someone nearby while trying to take them. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on the 28th of last month in a residential area within the redevelopment site in Gwangcheon-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, where they attempted to take 0.2g of methamphetamine (worth about 200,000 won) they had purchased.

On the 20th, the Gwangju Western Police Station announced that they had arrested men in their early 30s, A and B, on charges of habitual drug purchase and use (violation of the Narcotics Control Act), according to Yonhap News Agency.

During police investigations, they revealed that they purchased the drugs out of curiosity. The two, who are senior and junior acquaintances, bought methamphetamine through a highly secure application.

On the day of the incident, they headed to the front gate of a house where the distributor had hidden the drugs, intending to take them. Believing the house to be empty, they were startled when a dog barked inside and the homeowner came outside, causing them to drop the drugs they had brought onto the street.

The homeowner found a plastic bag containing white powder on the street and, suspicious of it, reported it to the police. The police analyzed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and conducted inquiries, leading to their arrest on the 16th.

Junior A tested positive in a drug urine test, and senior B was found to have purchased drugs again after the crime. Considering the risk of evidence destruction and flight, the court issued arrest warrants for them. The police plan to continue investigating their other offenses and the drug distribution network.

Meanwhile, secretive drug transactions via Telegram have recently become a social issue. Sellers using Telegram demand payment via bank transfer and Telegram.

They explain to sellers that delivery is possible anywhere nationwide on the same day either by courier or through a 'throwing' method. Here, 'throwing' refers to a non-face-to-face transaction method where drugs are pre-hidden at a specific location for exchange.
