'HustleGPT' Challenge Trending on Twitter
First Twitter Account in Challenge Surpasses 100,000 Followers
"You have 100 dollars (approximately 131,000 won). Your goal is to make as much money as possible in the shortest time without engaging in illegal activities."
Since OpenAI, the developer of the generative AI ChatGPT that has sparked a global craze, released 'GPT-4,' a 'HustleGPT (#HustleGPT)' challenge has been ongoing on the social networking service Twitter, where users attempt to make money using GPT-4.
Amid the massive interest in AI, the account that started this challenge saw its follower count skyrocket from 4,000 to nearly 100,000 in just five days. Direct messages (DMs) offering investments also poured in. Although the current earnings remain at $130, more accounts are joining the HustleGPT challenge one after another.
◆ Proposing an Eco-Friendly Brand... Mentioning Facebook Ads
The most notable participant in the HustleGPT challenge is an account introducing itself as a brand designer and writer named Jackson Greathouse Fall (@jacksonfall). Since the day after OpenAI released GPT-4, on the 15th (local time), he has been publicly sharing the collaboration process with GPT-4 on Twitter.
The collaboration began on the 15th when Fall input the following to GPT-4. He explained, "You are an entrepreneur AI, and I am your human partner," adding, "I act as the link between you and the physical world. I will do everything you ask." He then instructed the AI that the goal was to make a lot of money in a short period without illegal activities or physical labor, starting with $100.
Responding to Fall's instructions, GPT-4 suggested creating an affiliate marketing site for eco-friendly product content. On the 16th, Fall purchased the domain name for the website called 'Green Gadget Guru' for $8.16, as proposed by GPT-4. He then used the image-generating AI 'DALL·E 2' to create a logo, and GPT-4 designed the website layout. Additionally, he used another image-generating AI, Midjourney, to create images and posted a blog article titled 'Eco-Friendly Kitchen Tools' that appeared to be written by a human. An additional $29 was spent on setting up the website.
Fall asked GPT-4 what to do with the remaining $62.84. GPT-4 recommended promoting the site on social media to attract visitors interested in eco-friendly products or sustainable living. It suggested spending $40 on targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram, advising Fall to keep the remaining $22.84 as a reserve fund.
On the second day, the 17th, Fall added a new goal for GPT-4: to make $100,000 as soon as possible. GPT-4 then proposed allocating part of the budget to hire creators to produce content for the website, setting up an e-commerce store with a dropshipping model, and even developing a SaaS (Software as a Service) product to generate stable and long-term revenue.
Fall has been sharing updates on Twitter about the increase in followers, current cash holdings, and sales figures following the collaboration with GPT-4. As of the 19th, sales amount to only $130. However, the follower count, which was around 3,700 when the project started, has increased by 90,000. Since Fall's latest update, the follower count has continued to grow rapidly, now exceeding 100,000. Although Fall started with $100, after investors poured in funds, he revealed that as of the 18th, the cash on hand, excluding expenses, was $7,788.84.
◆ Could HustleGPT Become an Entertainment Element Like Game YouTubers?
The HustleGPT campaign is rapidly expanding on Twitter. A space for HustleGPT challenge participants has been created on GitHub, a developer source code community. About 70 participants have joined, and among them, five?including Fall?reported earning more than $1 through the HustleGPT challenge using GPT-4. Participants generally input prompts similar to those Fall first gave GPT-4, aiming to turn $100 into a large sum in the shortest time possible.
Even those not participating on GitHub are joining the HustleGPT challenge on Twitter, with posts like "Make it possible to send a rocket to space as quickly as possible with 100 euros to make a lot of money."
The U.S. economic media outlet Fortune compared the HustleGPT campaign to the rise of game YouTubers. In the past, it was almost unthinkable that YouTubers sharing gaming videos would become celebrities, but now they earn significant money and have grown into an industry. Similarly, the HustleGPT challenge could also grow further.
Fortune stated, "It could be a one-hit wonder, but from a broader perspective, there may still be an audience waiting for future stars who have the talent to entertain followers by sharing ways to interact with AI."
