3 out of 4 University Students View AI Impact Positively
"Saving Physical Time" Tops at 52.4%
Utilized in Academics, Leisure, and Economic Activities
Three out of four college students predicted that the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) such as 'Chat GPT' would have a positive impact on their studies and employment, and about 40% of students said they had actually used AI in their studies.
According to a survey conducted by the part-time job recruitment portal 'AlbaCheonguk' from the 9th to the 13th among 544 college students, 76.5% of college students viewed the increasing use of AI in academics and employment positively.
The main reason was time efficiency. "Because AI helps reduce the physical time required for studies and employment" ranked first with 52.4% (multiple responses allowed).
Following that were reasons such as ▲diversification of channels for acquiring information necessary for studies and employment (47.8%) ▲improving the quality of reports and assignments (41.1%) ▲high utility as a learning aid tool (33.2%).
The proportion of those who said they actually use AI in daily life was 38.8%, with 'studies (69.7%)' being the most common specific area of use. Other areas included ▲leisure (50.7%) ▲economic activities (23.2%) ▲employment (16.6%) ▲household chores (10.9%).
In particular, 25% of all college students said they had experience using 'Chat GPT,' which sparked a global craze, in their studies.
They mostly used Chat GPT for "information search and reference when writing assignments and reports (55.9%)" and "information search related to class subjects (50.0%)." Some students also said they relieved stress through the unexpected answers provided by Chat GPT.
Overall, 58.3% of college students expected that the advancement of AI technology would have a positive impact on future jobs and economic activities.
Specifically, the highest expectation was for "improvement in work performance using AI (68.1%)." This was followed by predictions of "increased opportunities for economic profit creation using AI" and "growth in new jobs related to AI."
On the other hand, some college students expressed negative views. Among all college students, 23.5% worried that "fair evaluation would become difficult due to various dishonest acts using AI."
Those who viewed AI technological advancement as having a negative impact on future economic activities cited reasons such as "job reduction due to AI replacing human labor" and "reduced scope of jobs available for employment due to AI labor replacement."
