The "Master Performer Series" is a repertoire introduced by the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra since last year, spotlighting the top performers of our time. This year's "Moments of the Maestro" features Kim Il-gu, holder of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 5 Pansori Jeokbyeokga and master of the "Kim Il-gu style ajaeng sanjo"; Kim Ae-ra, concertmaster of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra and haegeum player; and pianist Park Jong-hwa, professor at Seoul National University College of Music.
The program includes four pieces: "Gugak Orchestra Gongmudohaga," composed by Kim Sung-guk, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra; "Concerto Honmu (Dancing With Spirits)" for haegeum and gugak orchestra by Donald Womack, consisting of eight short movements based on the East Coast Byeolsingut ritual; "Concerto based on Kim Il-gu style ajaeng sanjo," which demands high artistry and expressive power; and the commissioned world premiere "Piano Concerto Chohon (招魂)" by composer Kim Daesung, portraying the genius composer Kim Sun-nam in a new musical language.
Notably, this year’s performance will be held at the National Theater’s Haerum Theater, optimized for natural acoustics to deliver the refined sound of the gugak orchestra.
A representative from the Sejong Center stated, "This concert will offer the artistic and musical depth of gugak orchestra through the collaboration of the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra, the leading house of Korean contemporary music, and master performers."
Ticket prices are 50,000 KRW for R seats, 30,000 KRW for S seats, and 20,000 KRW for A seats.
