Raising Citizen Awareness Through Simultaneous Progress in All Eup, Myeon, and Dong Areas
Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that it conducted a simultaneous campaign across all eup, myeon, and dong districts in collaboration with Gyeongnam Province and related organizations to promote wildfire prevention.
The city carried out wildfire prevention promotions targeting weekend hikers and visitors at Geumhoji Park in Geumsan-myeon, together with Gyeongnam Province and Jinju Fire Station, while also conducting mountain area cleanup activities such as collecting trash around forests and removing flammable materials.
Additionally, the wildfire drone monitoring team demonstrated wildfire surveillance using drones and conducted “visiting wildfire prevention promotion activities” in wildfire-prone areas.
At the same time, 30 eup, myeon, and dong districts within the city simultaneously promoted wildfire prevention campaigns at major hiking trail entrances and wildfire-vulnerable areas along with the “26th Love Tree Distribution” event, strengthening the resolve to prevent wildfires.
A city official stated, “With the dry weather continuing in spring and the recent large wildfire occurring in Hapcheon-gun, wildfires of various sizes have been frequently occurring nationwide, making wildfire prevention urgent. More than half of all wildfires are caused by human negligence such as arson by visitors and burning near forest-adjacent areas, so we urge citizens to actively participate in wildfire prevention.”
After the campaign, Jinju City plans to continue a relay campaign with resident organizations until May 15, the end of the spring wildfire caution period, to raise awareness about wildfires and actively promote wildfire prevention as a routine practice.
