Last year, a current police officer who was transferred after smelling women's shoes at an academy was caught this time while committing an obscene act in a commercial area.
According to Yonhap News on the 19th, the Samsan Police Station in Incheon announced that they have booked Police Officer A, in his 30s and affiliated with the Ganghwa Police Station, without detention on charges of public obscenity and are currently investigating him. Officer A is suspected of committing an obscene act in front of the restroom of a commercial building near an apartment in Samsan-dong, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, around 1 p.m. on the 16th.
Police who responded to a 112 report from a witness took Officer A for voluntary accompaniment to verify his identity and then released him to go home. Officer A was not on duty at the time and reportedly admitted to the offense. The police plan to suspend Officer A from his position and decide on disciplinary action after a subsequent internal investigation. A police official said, "Officer A was not intoxicated at the time of the offense," and added, "The motive and specific circumstances will be identified through further investigation."
Previously, in May last year, Officer A was also booked without detention on charges of trespassing after being caught smelling women's shoes in a shoe rack at an academy in Seo-gu, Incheon. At that time, the academy director said, "After hearing from an employee that a man was loitering in the academy, we reviewed the internal closed-circuit television (CCTV) and discovered this behavior, then reported it to 112."
Officer A, who was affiliated with a certain police substation under the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, reportedly visited the academy after work to consult about his child and took out women's shoes from the shoe rack to smell them. He stated during the police investigation that "it was an impulsive act," and was subsequently transferred to the Ganghwa Police Station.
