LGD OLED TV Panel Obtains Carbon Trust Certification

The First Case Among Display Panel Products

LG Display announced on the 19th that its OLED TV panels have received carbon footprint certification from Carbon Trust, a global environmental certification organization. This is the first time a display panel product has been certified by Carbon Trust.


Carbon Trust is a UK-based non-profit organization established to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions. The carbon footprint certification is considered one of the most credible international certification systems worldwide.


LG Display obtained the carbon footprint certification by precisely verifying the greenhouse gas emissions generated during the production and shipment processes of its products in accordance with the global carbon emission calculation standard (PAS 2050). The company explained that this is meaningful as it allows transparent disclosure of eco-friendly product information certified by a credible institution to customers and stakeholders.

LG Display’s OLED TV panels, which emit light from each pixel themselves, do not use backlights unlike LCDs, reducing plastic usage by over 90%. By increasing the use of iron metal materials, the product’s component recycling rate upon disposal was raised to 92.7%. The amount of harmful blue light emitted is also at the industry’s lowest level. There is also no flicker phenomenon that causes vision deterioration.


Park Kwon-sik, Head of LG Display’s Basic Technology Research Center (Executive Director), said, “We will expand LG Display’s unique eco-friendly OLED technology and strengthen OLED product leadership in the premium TV market.”


Meanwhile, since 2021, LG Display has introduced the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, which comprehensively evaluates all environmental impacts occurring throughout the product life cycle, to develop eco-friendly products. Through this, the company has achieved results such as reducing the use of materials and components and lowering greenhouse gas emissions and power consumption during manufacturing. This year, by applying micro-lens arrays (MLA) and meta technologies, energy efficiency was improved by about 22% compared to before at the same luminance level.
