On the afternoon of the 17th, Busan City held the ‘Busan City Children’s Complex Cultural Space Creation Committee’ and selected 13 new sites for the 2023 Busan Children’s Complex Cultural Space ‘Deullaknallak’.

Busan City Selects 13 New Sites for Children's Complex Cultural Space Project "Deullaknallak" This Year Busan City Hall.

‘Deullaknallak’ is a family-friendly space within a 15-minute living radius where children and parents can freely use book services, immersive content, media art, and more, allowing children to develop creativity and expand their imagination.

Since the project started in 2021, 13 locations have opened as of March, and construction is underway at 31 sites.

For the 2023 project, the city accepted new project applications from districts and counties from January to February. After on-site visits to major project locations and project selection evaluations, the committee selected a total of 13 sites on the 17th, categorized by size: 3 large sites (over 1000㎡), 5 medium sites (over 330㎡), and 5 small sites (over 150㎡).

The 13 newly selected sites will receive a total project budget of 17.7 billion KRW (11.2 billion KRW from the city, 6.5 billion KRW from districts and counties) to transform idle and deteriorated spaces within existing public facilities into places where children can ‘Deullaknallak’ and dream of a happy future.

The city has also established a specialized plan to differentiate ‘Deullaknallak’ from existing children’s facilities, brand the project, and increase public awareness.

The main elements of the specialized plan include ▲ installation of augmented reality-based electronic information display tools (digital signage) ▲ establishment of an ‘EBS-rang Nolja’ learning zone using intellectual property (IP) from the Korean Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) ▲ trademark registration of ‘Deullaknallak’ for policy branding ▲ insertion of ‘Deullaknallak’ promotional images into products through private sector collaboration.

Lee Yoon-jae, Director of the Youth Industry-Academia Division, said, “Once the 13 newly selected sites and the ongoing projects open sequentially, about 50 children’s complex cultural spaces will be established throughout Busan by the end of this year, making it easier for children to use ‘Deullaknallak.’ We will do our best to provide various EBS content and digital, cultural, artistic, and educational programs to create spaces essential for children and parents.”

The city plans to promote an additional project call targeting public small libraries around May to June to further discover sites for the 2023 children’s complex cultural space project.
