Gangnam-gu Selected as the Target Area for the 464,048㎡ ‘ICT Special Development Promotion District’ in Gaepo 4-dong

Establishment of Support Center for Attracting and Revitalizing ICT-related Industries, Operation of Education and Support Programs

Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) was selected as the target area for the ICT Special Development Promotion District on the 6th.

Seoul City selected the 464,048㎡ area around Gaepo 4-dong as the target area on February 28th through the Industrial and Special Development Promotion District Review Committee. If the promotion plan established by the district passes the Seoul City Urban Planning Committee review in the second half of this year, it will be finally confirmed as an ‘ICT Special Development District.’

The Industrial and Special Development Promotion District is a system introduced by Seoul City since 2007 to create an environment where future strategic industries can be located, and to induce related industries to cluster through institutional support, thereby developing into an industrial cluster.

Gaepo 4-dong has been home to Korea’s first self-sustaining venture town from the 1990s to the early 2000s, based on high accessibility to Teheran-ro and low rental costs. To leverage this characteristic, the district has made the designation of Gaepo 4-dong as an ICT Special Development Promotion District one of the pledges of the 8th mayoral term and has continuously held work consultations with Seoul City and others.

Once the Gaepo 4-dong area is designated as a Special Development Promotion District, a support center to attract and revitalize ICT-related industries will be established, and related education and support programs will be operated. Furthermore, by linking human resources, technology, and data with the Suseo-Segok Robot Hub District to be established in 2026, it is expected to leap forward as a 4th industrial hub through AI-ICT convergence, creating synergy as well.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “We will actively strive to have Gaepo 4-dong, which has excellent location conditions such as transportation and workforce, designated as an ICT Special Development District,” and added, “We will create new growth engines to lead Gangnam’s future by fostering future food industries.”
