Holding a Rally at Seoul Plaza to Condemn 'Humiliating Diplomacy Toward Japan'
A rally condemning the results of the Korea-Japan summit was held in downtown Seoul.
Civil organizations such as the Korea-Japan History and Justice Joint Action and the South Side Committee for the Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration held the "3rd Nationwide Rally to Condemn Humiliating Diplomacy toward Japan" at Seoul Plaza at 2 p.m. on the 18th.
Rallies were held throughout downtown Seoul, causing traffic congestion in the area. According to the Seoul Transportation Information System (TOPIS), as of 5 p.m. that day, the vehicle travel speed in downtown Seoul was recorded at 14.8 km/h.
In their resolution, the civic groups stated, "The Korea-Japan summit was tributary diplomacy that sold out history, justice, economy, military, security, and victims' human rights," adding, "It even brought new tasks from the Japanese government, such as demands for the implementation of the Korea-Japan comfort women agreement and resolution of the Dokdo issue."
About 3,000 participants held blue balloons and placards, shouting slogans such as "Condemn the Yoon Seok-yeol government’s humiliating diplomacy on forced mobilization." Starting around 3:20 p.m., they marched from Gwanghwamun Square to the Embassy of Japan in Korea, booed the Japanese flag, and dispersed around 4 p.m. The march led to the closure of three lanes on Sejong-daero and Sajik-ro.
At a rally held near Sungnyemun by the progressive group Candlelight Action, more than 7,000 people participated as of 5 p.m.
