Establishment of Cheonjangsan Woodcraft Experience Center Selected for Korea Forest Service Domestic Timber Utilization Promotion Contest

Aiming to Improve Convenience for Cheonjangsan Forest Trail Users and Enhance Residents' Forest Welfare Services

Secured 250 Million KRW in National Funding... Expectation for a More Substantial Woodcraft Experience Center

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is expected to gain momentum in the project to establish the 'Cheonjangsan Forest Trail Woodcraft Experience Center' after being selected for the '2023 Domestic Timber Utilization Promotion Contest' hosted by the Korea Forest Service.

Since September 2022, the district has been continuously consulting with the National Institute of Forest Science to improve convenience for Cheonjangsan Forest Trail users and enhance residents' forest welfare services such as woodcraft experiences. In December 2022, a budget of 100 million KRW was allocated for architectural planning and design for the woodcraft experience center.

The project was originally expected to cost a total of 1.5 billion KRW from Dongdaemun-gu's own budget, but this year, by being selected for the Korea Forest Service's '2023 Domestic Timber Utilization Promotion Project,' an additional 250 million KRW in national funding was secured. The district believes that with the secured budget, the project can be carried out more substantially.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "The establishment of the woodcraft experience center at the entrance of Cheonjangsan Forest Trail will provide residents with opportunities for wholesome leisure activities, promote the culture of timber use, and contribute to carbon neutrality. We will successfully complete the project."
