Lee Jae-myung, Leader of the Democratic Party, Criticizes "Humiliating Diplomacy" at Korea-Japan Summit
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, fiercely criticized President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 18th after the Korea-Japan summit, saying, “The president who went to Japan did not act according to the will of the people and ultimately chose the path of a Japanese lackey.”
Lee attended the nationwide rally condemning the Korea-Japan summit held in front of Seoul City Hall Plaza that afternoon and said, “President Yoon went with a bundle of gifts, but what he returned with was not empty hands but a pile of bills.”
Lee said, “The right to claim compensation for forced labor is a human right that no one can infringe upon. 'Third-party payment' without the consent of the victims is clearly illegal,” and added, “Nevertheless, the Yoon Suk-yeol administration is pushing forward with 'subrogation payment.' This humiliating attitude shows they will do anything just to please Japan.” He also claimed, “The Yoon Suk-yeol administration is moving toward Korea-Japan military cooperation through solutions for forced labor compensation and the restoration of GSOMIA (General Security of Military Information Agreement). This aligns with Japan’s militarization and the nullification of its Peace Constitution, which pose a permanent threat to the Korean Peninsula.”
He appealed, “We cannot stand by this ruthless administration that defies the people and betrays history. Let us, as sovereign citizens, definitely stop this humiliating collusion that stirs the wounds of victims and pushes the Korean Peninsula into the center of great power confrontation.”
