Acknowledgment of Using Profanity, Apology Offered
Host Jung Yoon-jung, who sparked controversy by using profanity during a live home shopping broadcast and engaged in heated exchanges with netizens while showing discomfort, has finally apologized. After the profanity controversy arose, Jung responded to netizens pointing it out by saying, “If you don’t like it, don’t watch.”
On the 17th, Jung wrote on Instagram, “I acknowledge that I used profanity, and I sincerely bow my head and apologize to our precious customers who may have been hurt by this and to all broadcasting staff involved.”
She continued, “Although I am always supposed to reflect on myself and think about how to repay the love I receive while being in a position to receive excessive love by meeting good products, I ended up using expressions that should never have been used,” admitting her mistake.
She said, “At first, I was not even aware of it myself, but many people pointed out my mistake, and after repeatedly watching the past broadcast, I seriously realized how big a mistake I had made,” adding, “I am sorry once again for the delay in offering a sincere apology.”
She added, “There were many grateful words within the scoldings conveyed through comments from many people. I will take them to heart and reflect more,” and “I will live with a more responsible attitude, more humility, and a spirit of giving back.”
Earlier, on January 28, Jung used profanity during a live home shopping broadcast selling cosmetics. The cosmetics sold out before the scheduled broadcast time ended, but the reason given for not ending early was the travel product broadcast scheduled afterward.
Jung expressed dissatisfaction, saying, “The travel broadcast after can’t be taken early. Travel products are broadcast only for the exact scheduled time. Why is it travel again? XX, I was going to go on a trip.” She then said, “I apologize for sometimes using inappropriate language during broadcasts, but please watch it like entertainment. Can’t home shopping enter the era of entertainment?”
Afterwards, numerous complaints were filed with the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC). On the 14th, the KCSC held an Advertising Review Subcommittee meeting and reviewed the home shopping broadcast in which the cast member used inappropriate language during a product sales broadcast, deciding to hold an ‘opportunity to state opinions.’ This process allows the KCSC to give the broadcaster a chance to explain before imposing sanctions, and the home shopping company must attend the next meeting to answer related questions from the commissioners.
However, amid the spreading controversy over her broadcasting attitude, Jung engaged in verbal exchanges with netizens.
When many comments criticized Jung’s broadcasting attitude, such as “Is the broadcast comfortable for you?” Jung responded to such comments by saying, “You must really dislike me. Don’t ever watch my Instagram or broadcasts. Getting angry causes stress and is bad for your health.”
