Yeongdeok-gun, Full Effort in Disaster Recovery Projects for Wildfire-Damaged Areas

Yeongdeok-eup Hwasuri Large Wildfire Damage Area, Rebirth of the Forest of the Future

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will invest 2.265 billion KRW this year to restore the forest fire damage area where 405 hectares of forest were lost due to a wildfire that occurred in Gumi-ri, Yeongdeok-eup, in February last year, by implementing projects such as logging and afforestation.

Yeongdeok-gun, Full Effort in Disaster Recovery Projects for Wildfire-Damaged Areas Yeongdeok County Office.

The county has established a phased restoration plan for the wildfire damage area, planning to carry out emergency logging and afforestation simultaneously on 19 hectares in the first half and 21.3 hectares in the second half of this year, which is the second year after the wildfire damage.

This restoration project actively reflects the opinions of forest owners affected by the wildfire and presents a new vision beyond simply restoring the forest to its pre-fire state, including restoring pine mushroom forests suited to local characteristics, planting nectar-producing tree species, and promoting rapid and systematic restoration work.

Kim Won-dong, Director of the Forestry Division, said, “We will mobilize all available resources to ensure that the wildfire damage area recovers quickly and is reborn as a forest for the future, meeting expectations. While planting trees is important, above all, we will carry out the project with thorough wildfire prevention measures so that residents do not suffer again from wildfire damage.”
