Jeon Du-hwan's Grandson Hospitalized and Undergoing Treatment
Jeon Woo-won, the grandson of former President Jeon Du-hwan, was taken to the hospital after appearing to use drugs during a live YouTube broadcast on the 17th.
Jeon, who is staying in the United States, said around 5 a.m. that day on YouTube Live, "I am using drugs and telling the truth," adding, "If I take drugs on this broadcast, I will get tested and serve my sentence, right?"
After administering a substance that appeared to be drugs, Jeon began rambling and complained of hallucinations before collapsing onto the floor. Later, individuals who appeared to be local police arrived and stopped the live broadcast.
Jeon was transported to a hospital for treatment and was reportedly unconscious for a time but has since regained breathing.
On the "Prayer Sharing" board of a church in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where Jeon's father, Jeon Jae-yong, serves as a pastor, a post was made that day stating, "Pastor Jeon Jae-yong's son Woo-won has been taken to the hospital and is not breathing. Urgent prayers are requested."
About an hour later, another post was added saying, "Thanks to the intercession of the congregation, his breathing has returned. Please continue to pray. Thank you."
Recently, since the 13th, Jeon has been exposing the corruption of the Jeon Du-hwan family through YouTube and social networking services (SNS). He claimed that his family owns multiple real estate properties and is using "black money" through so-called "money laundering."
Previously, Jeon Du-hwan was sentenced by the Supreme Court in April 1997 to life imprisonment and a fine of 220.5 billion won on charges including rebellion under the Military Criminal Act, treason, murder for the purpose of rebellion, and bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
However, after Jeon Du-hwan's death on November 23, 2021, 128.3 billion won of the confiscated assets were recovered by the prosecution, but the remaining 92.2 billion won remained unpaid as a fine. Under current criminal procedure law, the execution of fines on deceased individuals is suspended.
Nevertheless, the prosecution continues to pursue the collection of funds through remaining auction proceeds and new legal grounds (court settlements) that allow for the recovery of money.
