Support for Hygiene Products, Portal Promotion Benefits
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will designate additional Safe Restaurants within this year to expand the program in order to improve dining culture.
'Safe Restaurants' are eateries that strictly adhere to quarantine guidelines and hygiene management. The program was introduced in 2020 to promote hygienic and advanced dining culture in the food service industry.
The city currently designates and operates 363 locations and plans to recruit 80 more this year.
The designation requirements include compliance with three major practices: ▲ serving food individually (providing side plates, tongs, or single-person trays), ▲ hygienic management of utensils (individually packaged chopsticks and spoons or pre-placed personal utensils), and ▲ employees wearing masks.
Applicants must be general or rest food establishments and submit the Safe Restaurant designation application to the Yeosu City Food Hygiene Division by the 31st of this month. Afterward, the responsible staff will conduct an on-site inspection before designating the establishment as a Safe Restaurant.
Once designated as a Safe Restaurant, hygiene supplies to improve dining culture will be provided, and the restaurant will be registered as a Safe Restaurant on portals such as Daum and Naver, offering promotional benefits.
The city plans to thoroughly ensure safety by inspecting compliance with Safe Restaurant guidelines at least twice a year for newly designated establishments so that citizens can use them safely.
A city official stated, “A change in dining culture is inevitable to alleviate concerns about using restaurants,” and urged, “Please actively participate in the designation and use of Safe Restaurants, which protect personal safety and contribute to revitalizing the food service industry.”
