The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will provide monthly rent subsidies to single young adults facing economic difficulties.
On the 17th, Suwon announced that it will recruit 100 single young adults aged 19 to 34 residing in Suwon to participate in the '2023 Suwon City Youth Monthly Rent Support Project.'
The city will support up to 100,000 KRW per month for a maximum of five months, and if the monthly rent is less than 100,000 KRW, only the amount paid will be provided.
The program targets young adults without housing who live in private buildings with a rental deposit of 100 million KRW or less and monthly rent of 500,000 KRW or less, and whose income is at or below 120% of the median income.
Youths who received benefits in 2021 and 2022 or those who received the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Youth Monthly Rent Temporary Special Support' are not eligible.
Recipients of basic living subsidies, homeowners, applicants whose landlords are their parents, and participants in government or local government youth housing support programs are also excluded.
Applications can be submitted through the Suwon City Hall website from the 20th to the 31st of this month.
The city will notify selected applicants via text message in May and will disburse the rent support funds twice to the recipients' accounts: once in June (covering March to May) and once in August (covering June to July).
A city official urged, "Those who were ineligible for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Youth Monthly Rent Temporary Special Support can also participate, so we encourage many young people to apply."
