On the 15th (local time), Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited Hyde Park in London and unveiled the plan to upgrade World Cup Park, where the ‘Seoulling’ will be installed, as part of the ‘Seoul Park Landmark Development’ initiative.

Through this visit, Mayor Oh plans to proceed with the ‘Seoul Park Landmark Development’ project to make World Cup Park, where Seoulling will be located, a special resting place for Seoul citizens and one of the world’s top travel destinations.

In this regard, Seoul City has been promoting the establishment of the ‘Seoul Park Landmark Strategy’ to respond to the diversified green leisure demands following the increase in citizens’ use of parks and forests after COVID-19, and to strengthen Seoul’s global competitiveness. The plan aims to revitalize each park into a more attractive leisure space equipped with cultural, experiential, and relaxation content by leveraging the surrounding conditions and unique characteristics of each park.

First, the city will develop the World Cup Park area, where Seoulling will be installed, into various ▲experiential and activity landmarks (viewing spaces and attractions) cultural and artistic landmarks (sculptures and various theme parks) and healing spots utilizing the terrain with views of the Han River. The goal is to improve connectivity and accessibility between parks via aerial walkways and gondolas, as well as with surrounding facilities such as the Han River, making it a new landmark of Seoul in name and reality.

Specifically, locations with views of Sky Park and Noeul Park will be transformed into landmarks with observation towers and bridges, allowing visitors to enjoy the Han River sunset and riverside skyline.

Additionally, the Oil Tank Culture Park will be transformed into a media art park by utilizing existing structures (tanks). Expanding the existing cultural spectrum, various programs such as play, art, and media art will be added, and the outdoor space of the tanks will be enhanced as a park to strengthen its original function as a place for rest, encouraging more citizens to visit.

At the top of Noeul Park, an 18-hole park golf course will be added to improve accessibility for people with mobility challenges. Considering the difficulty for such individuals to access the upper part of Noeul Park, walking trails and sports facilities will be installed in Nanji Stream Park. The Metasequoia Road in Sky Park, connected to the Seoul Dulle-gil Trail, will be planted with flowering plants to create a healing spot where visitors can recharge in nature.

The Seoul Park Landmark project will begin with World Cup Park, where Seoulling will be installed, targeting 24 city-managed parks directly overseen by the city, and will be promoted until 2026. In the future, the project will be gradually expanded to include 81 ‘city-commissioned parks’ managed by autonomous districts but owned by the city.
