Gyeonggi-do Launches Season 2 of Resource Circulation Village Project... 13 Participating Villages Selected

Gyeonggi-do Launches Season 2 of Resource Circulation Village Project... 13 Participating Villages Selected Bucheon Songnae 2-dong participating in the Resource Circulation Village Creation Project

Gyeonggi Province is set to actively promote the 'Resource Circulation Village Creation Project,' where residents take the lead in solving household waste problems in collaboration with local governments and businesses.

From February 20 to March 8, the province conducted evaluations on 44 villages that applied for support projects in three areas: ▲Establishment of resource circulation hubs ▲Activation of resource circulation villages ▲Activation of resource circulation hubs. As a result, 13 villages, including Jeongok-ri in Yeoncheon-gun, were selected.

The Resource Circulation Hub Establishment Project involves creating separation and collection points, refill stores (zero-waste shops), education, and campaigns within the village to serve as local resource circulation hubs. The province selected three villages, including Jeongok-ri in Yeoncheon-gun.

The Resource Circulation Village Activation Project is a program where residents independently learn and practice separating and recycling waste generated within the village without a dedicated hub space. Eight villages, including Wondang 2-ri in Toechon-myeon, Gwangju, were confirmed as project sites.

The Resource Circulation Hub Activation Project targeted outstanding villages that participated in last year's hub establishment project, selecting two villages: Ildong in Ansan and Paldalsan Village in Suwon.

The province will sign joint agreements with the 13 selected villages and provide continuous support for the projects through one-on-one expert consulting for each village until the end of this year.

The Resource Circulation Village Creation Project, first launched nationwide in 2012, is a program where residents of single-family and multi-family homes in the province with insufficient separation facilities and poor environmental conditions participate in waste separation to build a resource circulation economy.

With the start of the 8th term of the provincial government, the province has newly launched Resource Circulation Village Creation Season 2.

To this end, the number of resource circulation hub villages has increased from 8 to 13, and the project budget has expanded from 200 million KRW to 500 million KRW.

Kim Kyung-seop, Director of the Resource Circulation Division of the province, said, "Gyeonggi Province's Resource Circulation Creation Season 2 will be developed into a more diverse and sustainable village project that improves residents' quality of life based on resource circulation public-private governance." He added, "We ask the selected villages to establish a foundation for solving environmental issues and to strive for sustainable projects through active public-private cooperation."

Meanwhile, over the past three years, the Resource Circulation Village Creation Project has separated and collected 119 tons of discarded plastics and vinyl within villages, achieving a carbon reduction effect of 222 tons.
