The number of new weekly unemployment claims in the United States has fallen below 200,000 again. It also came in below market expectations.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced on the 16th (local time) that new unemployment claims for the week of March 5-11 decreased by 20,000 from the previous week to 192,000. This is below the expert forecast of 205,000 compiled by The Wall Street Journal.
Continuing unemployment claims, which represent those filing for benefits for at least two consecutive weeks, also decreased by 29,000 to 1.68 million.
