On the 16th, Namwon City in Jeonbuk announced that it held the 2nd meeting of the Jeollabuk-do Mayors and County Governors Council for the first year of the 8th term of the elected government at Yecheon Sarangmaru.
At the meeting, 11 mayors and county governors, including Mayor Choi Kyung-sik and Council Chairman Shim Min, the county governor of Imsil, as well as Choi Hee-song, Secretary General of the Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Council, attended.
The meeting discussed the nationwide council co-chairmen meeting reports and topics such as ▲raising the contribution fees of the Jeonbuk Mayors and County Governors Council ▲the project to connect the Jeonju Outer Ring Road from Uwa to Sinri ▲construction of the national road in the Eastern Inland Area (Jeongeup to Namwon) ▲increasing the provincial government’s share of the project cost for installing a metropolitan municipal waste incineration facility.
They also discussed ▲expanding the scope of urban park occupancy permits ▲actively requesting national support for operating expenses of child welfare facilities ▲cooperation on the road improvement project of National Road No. 26 (Wanju Soyang to Jinan Bugwi) ▲reviewing the establishment and operation of hunting grounds throughout Jeollabuk-do ▲and proposing an increase in the budget for supporting medical personnel (specialists) at public health centers.
These agenda items will be further discussed and proposed to Jeonbuk Province and central government ministries to seek practical implementation plans.
Additionally, they pledged to actively promote local issues and festivals such as ▲the 24th Jeonju International Film Festival ▲Gunsan Kkongdang Barley Festival ▲Jeongeup Cherry Blossom Festival ▲the 2023 Namwon FAI World Drone Racing Championship ▲the opening of Imsil Okjeongho Suspension Bridge ▲the 20th Gochang Green Barley Field Festival ▲and the 10th Buan Masil Festival.
Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said in his welcoming remarks, “The city has succeeded in hosting the 2023 FAI World Drone Racing Championship and is advancing as a leading city in the drone aviation industry. We are making great efforts to successfully hold the Chunhyang Festival, so we ask for your interest and participation so that the city can take a step forward through culture and future industries.”
Council Chairman Shim Min stated, “I ask for the keen interest and active cooperation of the 14 mayors and county governors regarding the matters discussed today so that we can lead the development of Jeonbuk with one heart and one mind.”
Meanwhile, the council urgently adopted a joint statement opposing the relocation of the Fund Management Headquarters to Seoul and decided to actively promote united actions against the relocation.
In the statement, the Jeonbuk Mayors and County Governors Council condemned “the Fund Management Headquarters destabilization, which is filled with impure intentions to hinder national balanced development, and the media remarks that disparage Jeonbuk and Jeonju and mock the residents. The presidential pledge to designate Jeonbuk as a financial hub is a promise to the residents, so political attacks that obstruct this must stop immediately!” They urged an immediate halt to the attempt to relocate the Fund Management Headquarters to Seoul.
