Spreading the Culture of Sweeping in Front of One's Home and Store... Operating the Residents' Autonomous Cleaning Day on the Third Thursday of Every Month

Efforts to Create a Clean Living Environment through Distribution of Recycling-Only Bags, Operation of ‘Resource Circulation Clubs’ and ‘Illegal Dumping Security Guards’

"The third Thursday of every month is Residents' Autonomous Cleaning Day." Residents of Gwanak-gu take to the streets with brooms, dustpans, and placards

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) conducted a spring cleaning event on the 16th, where residents actively participated in cleaning up accumulated winter trash across 80 sections (83 km) in all 21 neighborhoods.

Additionally, to reduce fine dust and prepare for yellow dust in spring, high-pressure water trucks and vacuum road surface vehicles were operated on major arterial roads within the district.

The district designated the ‘Residents' Autonomous Cleaning Day,’ which was piloted last year, as the third Thursday of every month starting this year to revive the autonomous cleaning atmosphere that had stagnated due to COVID-19.

During the pilot period last year, Mayor Park Jun-hee toured all neighborhoods in Gwanak-gu, encouraging residents' voluntary participation in cleaning activities such as ‘sweeping in front of one’s home and store,’ emphasizing that cleaning administration cannot succeed without residents' cooperation.

On the 16th, Mayor Park Jun-hee continued communication administration for a ‘Clean Living Environment Gwanak’ by cleaning the streets with residents and listening to civil complaints early in the morning in the Sinwon-dong area.

The district is also striving to create a ‘Clean Living Environment Gwanak’ by promoting various cleaning policies such as boosting residents' autonomous cleaning, establishing the culture of ‘sweeping in front of one’s home and store,’ distributing Seoul’s first ‘recycling-only bags,’ and operating ‘resource circulation clubs’ and ‘illegal dumping security guards.’

Mayor Park Jun-hee of Gwanak-gu said, “We will use this year’s operation of the ‘Residents' Autonomous Cleaning Day’ as a stepping stone to establish the practice of sweeping in front of one’s home and store,” adding, “We will continue to carry out district administration through communication with residents to create a clean living environment in Gwanak.”

Yeongdeungpo-gu Holds ‘Welcome (YOUNG) to Youth Housing Move-in’ Event at Yeongdeungpo Orang on the 15th

Introduction to Yeongdeungpo Orang Facilities and Programs, Interior Accessory Making, and Roundtable Discussions Held

Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it held an event on the 15th at the Seoul Youth Center Yeongdeungpo Orang to welcome new residents moving into the Dangsan-dong youth housing.

The Dangsan-dong Youth Housing (Forena Dangsan) is a youth housing complex with 496 units built near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station to provide stable housing for youth and newlyweds. Construction began in March 2019 and was completed in December 2022, with 397 units (80%) currently occupied.

In particular, to improve the quality of life for youth, the district signed a social contribution agreement with the youth housing project operator and established Yeongdeungpo Orang, a youth-tailored space on the second floor of the Dangsan-dong youth housing. Yeongdeungpo Orang serves as a youth hub providing facilities for leisure, study, and work, as well as operating various programs to support employment activities and cultural life.

The district held the ‘Welcome (YOUNG) to Youth Housing Move-in’ event for residents and youth users of Dangsan-dong youth housing to introduce Yeongdeungpo Orang and take the first step toward creating a vibrant youth community.

The welcome event included ▲‘Introducing Our Home,’ a housewarming introducing Yeongdeungpo Orang’s main facilities and programs ▲‘Welcome Move-in,’ a cultural program making wax tablets (air fresheners) as interior accessories ▲‘Peek-a-Boo Roundtable,’ a communication session to foster neighborly relationships.

Before the event, the district actively promoted Yeongdeungpo Orang and the welcome event to residents through banner postings and newsletters. This led to enthusiastic local interest, with event registrations closing within thirty minutes at the end of February.

A youth housing resident who participated in the event said, “I look forward to the shared kitchen, library, meeting rooms, and various programs at Yeongdeungpo Orang that enrich youth life,” adding, “Networking with other residents to get to know neighbors and share interests was also very meaningful.”

Mayor Choi Ho-kwon of Yeongdeungpo-gu said, “I sincerely welcome all new residents who have become part of Yeongdeungpo and strongly support your hopeful future,” adding, “We will listen closely to the diverse voices of our youth who will carry the future of Korea and be a strong support so they can freely pursue their dreams.”
