Unclaimed Lotto Prize of 4.5 Billion Won
All Forfeited Prizes Allocated to Public Projects
Lottery winnings worth tens of billions of won have yet to be claimed by the winners. If about a month passes like this, the entire amount is scheduled to revert to the lottery fund.
The lottery operator 'Donghaeng Lottery' announced on the 16th, "There is only one month left until the payment deadline for the unclaimed winnings of the 1012th Lotto draw held on April 23 last year."
The first prize amount for the 1012th Lotto draw was 1,861,944,318 won. The winning numbers were 5, 11, 18, 20, 35, and 45, and the winning ticket was sold at a store located in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The deadline to claim Lotto winnings is 'within one year from the start of payment.' In other words, if the winner does not claim the 1012th draw winnings by April 24, the amount will revert to the lottery fund.
About 2.7 billion won in unclaimed first prize winnings from the 1007th draw on March 19 last year also remain unclaimed. For the 1007th draw, if the winner does not claim the prize by the 20th, the entire amount will be recovered into the lottery fund. Regarding this, Donghaeng Lottery announced last month, "Unclaimed first prize winnings of 2.7 billion won from the Lotto should be claimed."
So, what happens to the winnings that are recovered after the payment deadline passes? According to the Lottery and Lottery Fund Act, the entire amount of winnings reverted to the lottery fund is used for various public interest projects to help those in need, such as housing stability support projects for low-income groups, scholarship programs, and welfare projects for marginalized communities.
