Yongin City to Repair 13 Sites at Risk of Landslides

Yongin City to Repair 13 Sites at Risk of Landslides Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, is inspecting the construction site in Gogi-dong, Suji-gu, with officials ahead of the thawing season.

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will install preventive facilities such as check dams and stone barriers in 13 landslide-prone forest areas near residential zones.

Yongin City announced on the 16th that it will begin construction at the end of this month to install facilities for flood prevention and restoration in these 13 locations, investing a total of 1.7 billion KRW.

The city expects that this construction will help minimize damage caused by localized heavy rains, which have been increasing in frequency due to recent abnormal weather patterns.

The sites for landslide prevention facilities include five locations in Cheoin-gu, one in Giheung-gu, and seven in Suji-gu. Check dams and stone barriers, which can prevent soil and rocks from sliding down during heavy rains, will be installed.

Yongin City also plans to restore 0.55 hectares of forest damaged by landslides caused by last year’s heavy rains as soon as possible.

A city official stated, "We plan to complete the project quickly before the summer monsoon season," adding, "We will do our best to manage the forests with the safety of citizens as our top priority."
