The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (hereinafter referred to as Seoul Phil) announced on the 16th that it will hold a small concert for Itaewon titled ‘Itaewon Again, Spring’ at 5 p.m. on the 18th at the Yongsan Art Hall Small Theater Garam.
This performance is a special concert planned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with Yongsan District Office to support the recovery of daily life in the Itaewon area. Through the concert, they intend to deliver messages of comfort and hope to local merchants, residents, and bereaved families in Itaewon.
The concert will feature a diverse string ensemble composed of Seoul Phil members playing violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp. The performance will be accompanied by commentary from a Seoul Phil music librarian to enhance audience understanding.
The program includes Handel’s “Harp Concerto No. 6,” highlighting the beautiful tone of the harp; Offenbach’s “Jacqueline’s Tears,” featuring the poignant melody of the cello; Mozart’s 13th serenade, “Eine kleine Nachtmusik”; Handel’s “Water Music: Alla Hornpipe”; Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings”; and Shostakovich’s “Waltz No. 2 in C minor.”
Son Eun-kyung, CEO of Seoul Phil, said, “I hope that classical music will bring comfort to the merchants and residents who have been hurt,” adding, “With the arrival of a warm spring, I hope Itaewon regains hope and vitality once again.”
