50th Anniversary Ceremony of Sanggong Day Held
"Entrepreneurship Will Guarantee Success for the Next 100 Years"
Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that "companies should contribute to solving emerging social issues through technology and ideas."
On the 15th, during the 50th anniversary ceremony of Commerce Day held at the Chamber of Commerce building, Chairman Choi said, "The next 100 years will be an era where 'new entrepreneurship guarantees successful business.'"
Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is delivering a greeting speech at the commemorative ceremony held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry building on the 15th, marking the 50th anniversary of Commerce and Industry Day.
Chairman Choi explained, "Commerce Day began in 1974, a difficult time right after the oil shock, to encourage businesspeople," adding, "That year marked the birth of Korea's first car model, the Pony, and the first domestic production of transistor chips."
He continued, "Although we are currently facing an unprecedented crisis, the resilience of our economy has continuously strengthened," emphasizing, "We should not be satisfied with past achievements but prepare for the future 100 years to ensure sustainable growth."
Chairman Choi introduced that he asked the globally popular conversational AI chatbot, ChatGPT, about "the role of future businesspeople," and said, "The response was that economic growth and jobs must go hand in hand, creating social impact through improving quality of life and solving social problems."
He added, "While the speed of technological advancement that can say such things is quite astonishing, the AI's analysis was not significantly different from our own concerns in reality."

Chairman Choi reiterated, "Technological progress will measure and demonstrate the social impact of corporate activities, which will ultimately influence consumer choices," and said, "Companies' inherent role is to utilize AI, big data, and other technologies to continuously seek new opportunities and invest steadily, thereby creating growth, jobs, and social value."
He further requested, "The government should make systems and legal frameworks more flexible to establish testbeds where innovative attempts can be made," and proposed, "A paradigm shift like 'Columbus's egg' is needed from the policy-making process."
Chairman Choi also mentioned the Busan Expo, saying, "The inspection team is coming, and hosting the Busan Expo will be another important task this year," and expressed his hope that "businesspeople will also join efforts to support the Busan Expo bid."
Meanwhile, at the ceremony, Kwon Oh-gap, Chairman of HD Hyundai, Jung Cheol-dong, CEO of LG Innotek, and Kim Seok-su, Auditor of Dongseo Food (former chairman), received the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, the highest honor for entrepreneurs.
