Women-Friendly Cities are cities where women and men participate in a balanced way in the process of establishing and executing local policies, and where care and safety are realized. The number of designated cities increased from 2 in 2009 to 66 in 2015, 87 in 2018, and 101 in 2022.

Last year, the Presidential Citation for Women-Friendly City Creation was awarded to Gangwon Taebaek City, and the Prime Minister's Citation was awarded to Gyeongnam Changwon City and Jeonnam Suncheon City.

Gangwon Taebaek City was recognized for its achievements in establishing a practical employment and start-up foundation through region-specific vocational training and job linkage, as well as disaster and violence preparedness education through a safety university.

Gyeongnam Changwon City created a cultural park to record culture and history after closing a prostitution district, and established public facility guidelines for socially vulnerable groups together with a citizen participation group.

Jeonnam Suncheon City trained care workers linked to after-school care and promoted resident-led nighttime gap joint care.

In 2022, 25 new Women-Friendly Cities were designated in Eumseong County, Chungbuk, and will carry out Women-Friendly City projects for the next five years. These projects include expanding women's economic activities and social participation, enhancing community safety, and creating family-friendly environments.
