Three Unreasonable Bus-Only Lanes Removed at Yongin-Seongnam Boundary

Three Unreasonable Bus-Only Lanes Removed at Yongin-Seongnam Boundary Area around 904 Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin City, where the bus-only lane was lifted

The city of Yongin in Gyeonggi Province has removed three unreasonable bus-only lanes near Dongcheon Station on the Shinbundang Line.

On the 15th, Suji District in Yongin announced that it had lifted the bus-only lanes at three unreasonable locations along an 800-meter section of Local Road No. 23 (Sinsu-ro) from Geumgok IC to KT Samgeori (around Dongcheon-dong 764-6) near Dongcheon Station on the Shinbundang Line.

This section is a boundary area connecting Seongnam City and Yongin City, where the bus-only lane boundaries were unclear, causing confusion among drivers and increasing the risk of traffic accidents.

The bus-only lane, which was originally three lanes, was expanded toward the two-lane direction, resulting in an abnormal shape where the blue bus-only lane markings crossed lanes 2 and 3.

Suji District also removed bus-only lanes along a 600-meter section from Mandang Gas Station to Hyundai Apartments (around Dongcheon-dong 904) and a 400-meter section from Suji Jung Samgeori to KT Samgeori (around Pungdeokcheon-dong 748).

Since last year, as residents' requests to remove these bus-only lanes poured in, the district inspected the sites, immediately established a maintenance plan, and, through consultation with the Yongin Western Police Station, succeeded in lifting the bus-only lanes.

These three sections, designated as bus-only lanes in 2010, have a maximum bus traffic volume of 13 to 40 buses per hour. The number of users is only up to 163 to 797 people per hour. The district analyzed that usage has gradually decreased since the opening of the Shinbundang Line in 2016, which dispersed traffic demand.

A district official stated, "The facilities intended for residents' convenience lost their effectiveness and caused adverse effects such as accident risks, so we removed the bus-only lanes," adding, "We will continue to create an efficient and convenient traffic environment to help residents travel safely."
